Curve-billed Thrasher

In the morning when I enjoy my breakfast on the back patio, this Curve-billed Thrasher sings a sweet, melodic song, perching atop the juniper trees or cholla.

The Curve-billed Thrasher is a familiar backyard bird that prefers scrubby desert habitat with cactus and cholla. Calls a loud, two-syllable ‘whit-wee.” Feeds on the ground. A male follows a female during courtship singing a soft song. Builds nest in a spiny shrub or cactus using twigs and grass and lining it with finer plant material. Pairs often remain together all year.
