From dawn to dusk, the light and scenery are inspiring here in Santa Fe, New Mexico: "The City Different, in the Land of Enchantment." It is easy to understand why so many artists are inspired to live and create here. The light is "different." Thank you for visiting and enjoy...
The wall of pegboard is handy for reference materials: reference photos and custom color-chart panels. Using the wall for printed photographs is being phased out, A computer with large monitor replaces the reference photos.
Everything needed is within arms reach. To the left and right are heavy-duty projects centers on sturdy casters. They provide storage and can be easily moved to reconfigure the arrangement.
The electronics center and surround sound speakers provide entertainment. Audiobooks are a favorite, followed by podcasts.
The computer monitor on the left provides a clear display of source materials. The small white taboret to the right of the easel holds the paint palette. Brushes, paper towels and solvents are on the project center to the right.
Color-swatch charts hanging from the pegboard wall keep oil painting references in close proximity to the visual reference materials.
Ott-Lite True Color lighting is used throughout the studio. Here, Ott-Lites provide balanced lighting on the easel, the taboret and the pegboard holding the paint color charts. The light fixtures on the ceiling are also Ott-Lite tubes.
Spectacular! Sangre de Cristo, the name of the mountains, may refer to the occasional reddish hues observed during sunrise and sunset, and when alpenglow occurs, especially when the mountains are covered with snow. The mood of the view changes with the light.
A fully adjustable large drafting table serves multiple purposes. It is a drawing and layout table when flat or at a slight tilt. When photographing artwork, the table is positioned at 90° and holds artwork upright and square to the camera.
The Photography Photo Portrait Studio 600W Day Light Umbrella Continuous Lighting Kit by LimoStudio is used when photographing artwork in the studio.
The smaller drafting table is perfect for most drawing, watercolor and color chart projects.
The AV cart to the right of the drafting table holds the wide-format Canon printer on the bottom shelf. The cart is rolled out when the printer is needed, then tucks away beside the drafting table providing additional table space.
The taboret on the right stores pencils, pens and drafting supplies.
The studio shelves contain a collection of favorite art books including art history, painting and drawing techniques and biographies.
It's wonderful during the spring, summer and fall. The courtyard is filled with hummingbirds, colorful flowers and "nature."
Birds, bunnies, coyotes and other wildlife are entertaining while having coffee or breakfast on the portal. The studio opens directly into the courtyard.
